Hand quilting: Hexagon hand piecing (half day workshop)

Come and learn how to hand sew hexagon pieces using paper templates. This is a half day workshop lasting from 10am till 1pm which includes a light lunch afterwards. Come and have a lovely morning, hand sewing . Please bring your own fabrics to use.
Beginners Patchwork: Making a patchwork top for a quilt
A really lovely workshop to get you started on patchwork and is suitable for beginners.
Materials can be purchased from Nicki’s stash at 40p per square. Squares measure 6.5in and an average quilt top will take 108 squares. It’s best to bring some of your own fabrics which you can buy in fat quarters or by the metre. We will cut the squares on the day. Contact Nicki if you need advise on buying fabrics – fabrics should be quilting cotton and are easily available to buy on the internet.
Please bring your own rotary cutter and cutting board, if you don’t have these, then you can borrow from Nicki or purchase at a discounted price. Contact Nicki in advance to advise.
A sewing machine is necessary for this workshop. Please bring your own or advise Nicki if you need to borrow one, before the workshop.
You will leave with a completed quilt top. To complete you quilt you’ll need to back it with wadding and backing fabric and edge it. Advise on how to do this will be given or you can book into another workshop to complete this.
You will learn to:
- Use a rotary cutter and cutting board.
- Measure fabrics correctly
- Use a sewing machine
- Sew squares together
- Plan and design your quilt top
If you’ve already made your patchwork top and would like to come and finish it. Please bring your own materials, or purchase from Nicki. Please advise upon booking.
You will learn how to:
- make a simple backing
- use wadding
- simple binding (edging)
- ‘quilt in the ditch’
